Historically, Sumi ink has been popular in Asia for painting and calligraphy.
Sumi ink is a carbon pigment, offering a rich black and an endless range of tones.
Traditional sumi painting is usually done either on rice paper or silk.
I paint either on Arches paper or cotton matte board.
